As an Oakmont Family Photographer, one of the most meaningful parts of my work is photographing families through multiple seasons of life.
This studio family portrait took place at Allure Loft and featured a mom, dad, and their baby boy. Mom and I actually went to college together. Over the years we photographed weddings side by side, collaborated on projects, and supported each other’s photography businesses. Being invited to document her own family felt incredibly special.
I recently photographed her studio maternity session, so this session marked the next chapter. Instead of a couple preparing for a baby, I now watched them step fully into parenthood.
Studio family portraits keep the focus simple and intentional. The clean environment removes distractions and allows connection to lead the image. The baby stayed happiest in his parents’ arms, and I guided them into small movements rather than stiff posing. Dad rocked him gently. Mom leaned in close. The interactions created the portraits.
Working with an Oakmont Family Photographer also means families receive help before and after the session. I assist with wardrobe planning so outfits coordinate without feeling overly matched. Afterward, I design wall artwork so photographs live in the home rather than on a device.
I often encourage families to print their photographs. The Professional Photographers of America shares research explaining that children feel a stronger sense of belonging when they regularly see family photos displayed around them.
This session reminded me why I love photographing repeat clients. I first documented their wedding years ago. Now I photograph them as parents.
An Oakmont Family Photographer does more than create images. I help families preserve their history as it unfolds.
