A fall session with a returning family at one of Pittsburgh’s most loved portrait locations
One of my favorite parts of this career is seeing families again as their lives continue to grow. I previously photographed this sweet family before, so I was thrilled when they reached out to update their Hartwood Acres family photos this fall.
We planned the session during peak autumn color at Hartwood Acres. The soft evening light and wide open lawns created a calm atmosphere right away. Because the children were already familiar with me, they settled in quickly and the session felt relaxed from the start.
Their little boy was full of personality and smiles. He brought a playful energy that made photographing him effortless. Instead of focusing on still poses, we gave him room to explore. The best moments happened when he laughed with his parents, ran across the grass, and simply enjoyed being outside with them.
This is one of the reasons I love working with returning families. There is already trust, and that allows genuine interaction to happen naturally. These Hartwood Acres family photos were not just about documenting how everyone looked this year. They captured how their child interacts with his parents and how their relationships continue to deepen.
Hartwood Acres is especially beautiful in the fall. The architecture, trees, and open fields give families variety without needing to travel far within the park. It also allows young children to move freely, which always results in more natural expressions.
I am always grateful when families come back for another session. Photographing a family over time turns portraits into a story, and it is incredibly meaningful to be trusted to document those chapters.
