Some sessions feel especially full circle. I first met this couple years ago when I photographed their engagement session and later their wedding. After their wedding they moved to Europe, so I never expected our paths to cross again so soon. This fall they were visiting Pittsburgh and reached out about scheduling Hartwood Acres Family Portraits while they were home. I was so excited to see them again, and even more excited to finally meet the two little people who had joined their family since the last time I saw them.
Their toddler son immediately won me over. He had the most gorgeous curly hair and one of the happiest personalities I have ever photographed. He smiled at everything and everyone, and his energy set the tone for the entire session. His baby sister joined us too, peacefully snuggled in her parents’ arms for much of the evening.
We met at Hartwood Acres during peak fall color. The soft light, open lawns, and quiet paths created a relaxed environment that worked perfectly for young children. Instead of rushing, we took our time and let their son explore the space. The sweetest moments came naturally when he laughed with his parents and leaned in to check on his little sister.
Sessions like this are a reminder of why I value long-term relationships with my clients. Getting to photograph a couple before marriage and then again as parents is incredibly meaningful. These Hartwood Acres Family Portraits were not just about updating photos. They were about documenting how life had grown and changed, even across an ocean.
I am always grateful when families make time for photos while visiting home. Years from now, these images will hold not just memories of childhood, but memories of coming back to Pittsburgh together.
If you are planning your own family portraits in Pittsburgh, Hartwood Acres is always a beautiful fall option. You can also view another recent session here at Hartwood Acres. For park hours and seasonal updates, visit the official Hartwood Acres park page.
