When Gracyn and Geremiah reached out to me for their engagement session, they had one clear vision: variety. They wanted their photos to reflect both the charm of Pittsburgh’s historic architecture and the modern vibrancy of Downtown. While deciding on locations was initially a challenge, the couple’s choice to explore both the Oakland area and Downtown Pittsburgh proved to be perfect for their dream engagement session.
We began the afternoon in Oakland, where the iconic University of Pittsburgh campus provided a stunning backdrop. Our first stop was the Frick Fine Arts Building. Its timeless architecture and elegant arches gave their formal attire a sense of classic sophistication.
From there, we moved to the Mellon Institute Library. This location is a personal favorite of mine for its grand columns and stately façade. The symmetry and grandeur of the Mellon Institute contrasted wonderfully with the couple’s playful energy. It was here that Gracyn and Geremiah shared some of my favorite moments from the day — laughing together sneaking in a few candid giggles between shots. It was evident how deeply they cared for one another, and these authentic moments brought the photos to life.
After capturing Oakland’s charm, we headed to Downtown Pittsburgh for a change of scenery. Our first stop was Mellon Green, a small park nestled off Grant Street. This location felt like a hidden gem in the heart of the city. The greenery and open space provided a refreshing contrast to the surrounding urban landscape. Here, Gracyn and Geremiah changed into their casual outfits — a classic t-shirt and jeans combination that radiated effortless style. As they strolled hand-in-hand through the park, their chemistry shone through in every frame. The simplicity of their outfits allowed their personalities and love to take center stage.
Just a short walk away, we found ourselves at Mellon Square. This parklet, located near the historic William Penn Hotel, offered a blend of modern design and lush greenery. The geometric fountains and tiered landscaping made for unique and dynamic compositions. As the sun began to set, the city lights flickered to life, adding a touch of urban romance to their photos. The couple’s casual look fit perfectly with the vibrant energy of Downtown, creating a balanced contrast to the formal elegance of their earlier shots.
Reflecting on this session, I’m reminded of how special it is to capture a couple’s story in places that hold meaning for them. Pittsburgh’s diverse locations provided the perfect canvas for Gracyn and Geremiah’s love story, and I’m so grateful to have been part of their journey. If you’re considering a Downtown Pittsburgh engagement session, don’t be afraid to mix it up. Whether you’re drawn to historic charm, modern parks, or a blend of both, this city has endless possibilities to create something uniquely yours.
