Photographing a maternity session for a close friend always carries extra meaning. As a Pittsburgh maternity photographer, capturing Alaina’s session felt deeply personal from the start. She wanted something adventurous and outdoors, so we chose locations that reflected her love for nature. Instead of a traditional setting, we focused on movement, scenery, and connection.
First, we explored McConnell Mills State Park. The river trail offered dramatic views and a peaceful rhythm. Flowing water, rugged rock formations, and shaded paths created a calm yet powerful backdrop. As we walked along the trail, we captured moments that felt natural and unposed. Because the landscape spoke for itself, Alaina’s strength and anticipation remained the focus.
Next, we traveled to Moraine State Park to continue the session. Lake Arthur introduced a softer, more open feel. Gentle light and wide skies created a sense of stillness. In contrast to the river trail, the lakeside setting brought balance and quiet beauty. Together, these locations told a layered story of adventure and reflection.
As a Pittsburgh maternity photographer, I always center my work on authenticity. Maternity portraits should feel empowering and honest. Outdoor sessions, in particular, allow space to move, breathe, and be present. They also create images that feel grounded in both place and emotion.
Pregnancy is a season filled with strength and change. Moments like these pass quickly, yet photographs allow them to remain. From winding trails to peaceful shorelines, this session preserved a chapter worth remembering.
