Q: Describe your wedding day in your own words
A: Our wedding day was amazing. I think it was the definition of love prevailing since we had encountered so many obstacles and ended up on plan Z! We knew that getting married was more than having a fancy party. The day was entirely about Reed and I’s love for each other!

Miranda & Reed | St. Catherine’s of Sweden Church Wedding – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Saying that 2020 hit the Wedding Industry like a tornado is an understatement. So many couples had to adapt to change – change of dates, venues, amount of guests, and vendors. Even through these challenges and unprecedented times, Miranda & Reed still said ‘I do.’
I really wanted to share Miranda’s experience as I know hers was not the easiest. Her wedding day was still so incredibly special and unique, but I know it was not what she originally envisioned. So I asked her some questions to help give insight into planning a wedding during a global pandemic.
Q: What was your color palette and your style vision?
A: Navy Blue, Maroon, and accents of gold. My style vision was romantic but still simple.
Q: How did you two meet?
A: Reed and I both went to North Catholic High School. A few years after high school, we reconnected at New Amsterdam Bar in Lawrenceville.
Q: How did your significant other propose?
A: Reed made a CD with all of the songs that were significant to us throughout our relationship. Then he took me to every place that was important/a milestone to us. The first stop was North Catholic, then New Amsterdam, then the restaurant we had our first date, etc. The last place he took me was Highland Park. That’s where he originally asked me to be his girlfriend. He proposed in front of the fountain! We call this our “Reunion Tour.”
Q: What unique elements or DIY details did you include?
A: We ended up decorating an Air BnB since we couldn’t have the original reception that we had wanted.
Q: Tell us about your flowers, your attire, your favors, your cake, etc.
A: The bouquets were made by me. I combined different florals to get the look I wanted. The flower garlands used for our minimal decor were wrapped with string lights to create a romantic feel. My dress came from Blanc de Blanc Bridal. They were great to work with. I went in wanted something with sleeves, and left with the dress that my consultant had picked out for me! Reed got his suit from Joseph A. Bank. At the time I worked at an engraving store, and I personally engraved his tie bar. I had my hair done by Elisha Evans at Copacetic Beauty Lounge. My jewelry and hair pieces all came from small shops on Etsy.
Q: What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning?
A: Our wedding was very unique due to COVID. So originally, we had planned on having our wedding in a church and then celebrating in a beautifully decorated golf club. We ended up on plan Z but we loved every second of it!
Q: What was your favorite moment?
A: My favorite memories are the small moments of time that Reed and I got to spend together just ourselves. The photos after the ceremony are some of my favorite memories of the whole day because Reed and I got to spend time capturing the moment before we re-joined our group! Even though it was raining, it was still a moment to spend with Reed acting like we were models!
Q: What is one piece of advice that you could give newly engaged couples?
A: One piece of advice I’d have for newly engaged couples is to be adaptable. Unexpected things may happen while you’re planning that make you feel like your vision is crumbling. Just keep in mind that the day is about the two of you celebrating your love, and if you remember that you will have an amazing day no matter what!
Q: Did the pandemic impact how you planned your wedding? What were some changes or things you did differently? Did you have to change your date, guest count, venue, etc?
A: The pandemic impacted our wedding greatly. The week of our wedding, there was a mask mandate put into place where everyone had to wear masks indoors. Because of this, we had to wear masks during our ceremony. But now we have pictures to show our future children/grandchildren about the time we got married with masks on. We also had many close family members who are immuno-compromised so we felt that it was best to postpone our reception until 2021 where we could gather more safely. Because of that we had a small ceremony, and very small after party with the bridal party in an Air BnB. Our venue and DJ were really amazing about the situation. We were able to push back our reception until the next year. We were able to celebrate how we wanted with our entire family on November 20, 2021. We reframed the event as our 1 year anniversary party!
Q: Was there anything about your wedding you wish you could change or would have planned differently?
A: I wouldn’t change anything! We will forever have a unique and funny story to tell about how we got married during COVID times.
