Lindsey & Randy | Nicassio Fields Wedding

It’s Q&A Time! One of my new favorite things is taking the time with my couples post-wedding to reflect on their wedding experience. I asked Lindsey & Randy a series of questions and have shared them in today’s post. I hope that their insight helps in your wedding planning too!

 

Q: How did you two meet?
A: We met through a mutual friend at Kennywood Park, the year Randy graduated High School (2012). The group wanted to go onto the Noah’s Ark, which was a ride Lindsey has always been afraid of Randy, not knowing her too well, stuck near her and promised her food after they walked through the ride. Ever since then, their continued visits to Kennywood involve going on the Noah’s Ark and getting a corn dog afterwards.

Q: How did he/she propose?
A: In January 2019, Lindsey was on her way home from a work trip in Las Vegas. After talking to Randy, he said he had to work overtime, and he would unfortunately see her later that evening. Little did she know, when walking into their front door, she saw rose petals, balloons, and string lights and Randy dressed up in their living room with 150 tea lights lit behind him.

Q: What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning?
A: Prior to planning, I knew that I wanted a fall wedding. Fall is my favorite season and we have the best memories from that time of the year: WVU football games (both our alma maters) and bonfires spent together during chilly nights. Prior to planning, I also knew that our wedding was going to be big! We had a lot of friends and family who were important to us to spend the evening together celebrating the big day.

Q: What was your color palette and your style vision?
A: Our color palette, as it took place in the fall, was burgundy for the bridesmaids dresses and navy for the men’s suits. The reception venue had gold accents and looked to be more “modern” than country as the theme.

Q: What unique elements or DIY details did you include?
A: Well… the whole wedding was originally going to be taken care of by our wedding venue, but then COVID! Two months before our September 2020 wedding, we replanned the whole thing due to the fact that our original venue could no longer facilitate our guests. Therefore, we spent the next two months leading up to the wedding getting crafty by printing our own invitations, place cards, menu cards and table numbers. Beyond the replanning of the wedding (catering, DJ, venue), two unique elements that I was excited to have was a large family tree print out that a coworker did for Randy and I. It went back several generations and was a centerpiece to really see how two families were coming together. The other was my signage that i had sprinkled all over the venue (welcome, table chart, bar, memory table). While this is a pretty common decoration to have at a wedding, it was special to me that a friend did them all by hand for Randy and I.

Q: What was your favorite moment?
A: My favorite moment of the wedding was at the end of the night when the DJ played Randy’s only requested song (One More Time by Daft Punk) and we had all our family and friends circle around us. At that moment, it was the perfect closing song to the night and dance to feel so loved and celebrated by the people that our near and dear to our hearts. As the night was over, it really did feel like just the beginning for our new chapter and we we’re ready to go into it together.

Q: Describe your wedding day in your own words
A: Our wedding felt almost perfect. I know most brides say that, but it was a day full of love and celebrating! The weather was high for mid-September, but the sunshine made everyone feel happy and excited! I was most nervous for the ceremony (at Immaculate Conception Church). It was nerve wracking to walk down an aisle with all eyes on you. One of my favorite parts was when my dad kept telling me to ‘slow down’ as we walked towards the alter. After the ceremony, the fun really began and I can’t forget how excited we all were when taking our photos before the reception. Yes, this can be a hectic time, but I think our bridal party was excited to be there and part of the day as much as Randy and I were to be married. At the end of the night, after all the celebrating and dancing, it was the best feeling sitting in our hotel room with pizza and champagne watching a movie as the new Mr. and Mrs. Burger. The whole day, we both smiled from ear to ear.

Q: What is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be?
A: Do not sweat the small stuff. Honestly, when you look back at the entire day, you do not remember the flowers, or the table cards, or the types of silverware used.. you only remember the good time you had with your friends and family and the memories that you made together. I HIGHLY recommend investing in a good DJ/MC as they make or break your night. They will keep the party going, and make it fun and light. And lastly, HIRE THE VIDEOGRAPHER. I can’t tell you how many times I watch my wedding video and still feel like it was yesterday.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share?
A: My favorite part of the whole process and planning, is that no matter what curveball life throws (thanks, COVID!) it will all work out in the end. I truly am grateful for the replanning of our wedding and think that it was meant to be. The planning is fun for a detail oriented person like myself, but during the day of the wedding, you don’t care a bit about any of the details, and you’re only focused on marrying the love of your life. I wouldn’t have changed a thing!
