A Hartwood Acres Maternity Session often marks the beginning of a completely new chapter. For this session, that chapter felt especially personal.
I photographed this outdoor maternity session during the summer at Hartwood Acres. The soft evening light filtered through the trees and created a calm setting for portraits. Open fields, walking paths, and stone architecture make this one of my favorite locations for maternity sessions.
This expecting mother is also my best friend. I welcomed my daughter in April, and she will meet her first baby in October. We both found ourselves entering motherhood at nearly the same time. Photographing her during this season meant more than creating portraits. I documented the anticipation before her life changes forever.
We kept the session simple and relaxed. She walked through the grass, held her belly gently, and laughed easily between moments. I guided her with small prompts rather than formal posing. The movement helped her feel comfortable and allowed genuine expressions to appear naturally.
During a Hartwood Acres Maternity Session, I also help clients prepare in advance. I assist with dress selection, timing, and location choices so the experience stays stress-free. You can learn more about how I plan maternity portraits on my Maternity Session Experience.
I also encourage printing photographs. The Professional Photographers of America shares research explaining that children who grow up seeing family photographs displayed often feel stronger connection and belonging.
This session captured a season of waiting and excitement. Soon our children will grow up together, and these images will remind us where that story began.
A Hartwood Acres Maternity Session preserves the quiet anticipation before a family first meets their baby.
