Duquesne Power Center Wedding

Reflecting back to the time of this Duquesne Power Center Wedding, I never knew how special it would be to me now. I connected with Kara through one of my incredible second photographers – Tara. Kara and I clicked pretty quickly over coffee during our first meeting. Since then, I have photographed their engagement session, wedding day, maternity session, and soon I’ll get to photograph their newborn session. It seriously means SO much to me when I get to document my couples’ lives past the wedding day. It fills my heart with such joy watching everyone start their lives as one and eventually grow their families.

Kara & Gary are such a laid-back couple. Their ceremony took place at the historic Epiphany Roman Catholic Church right in downtown Pittsburgh. Being one of my favorite churches to photograph in, I was so excited – the architecture and stained glass inside are absolute perfection. Their reception took place at the Duquesne Power Center – right on campus where they attended college.

Funny story – After the ceremony, I planned to ride on their trolley around Duquesne’s campus to take photos of the bridal party & couple. THEY FORGOT ABOUT ME – and left me at the church! I thought it was hilarious (and luckily had my car onsite), but they felt sooo bad. I actually forgot all about this until I photographed their maternity session later in 2021 and they brought it up. Sometimes things don’t always happened as planned on the wedding day, but overall everything still happened on schedule as it needed to.

I also experienced the most epic bridal entrance I have ever had the opportunity to photograph. Every memeber of the bridal party brought the energy as they entered, but the real MVPs were the maid of honor and best man – they entered in inflatable sumo costumes – AMAZING 😂

In my process of blogging these older weddings, I reconnected with Kara and asked her to reflect on her wedding day.

How did you two meet?

A blind date set up by mutual friends.

How did he/she propose?

He proposed on a trip to Washington D.C. for our 2 year anniversary.

What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning?

A wonderful party full of our closest friends and family!

What was your color palette and your style vision?

Hunter green and sunflowers. I’m not very crafty so I wanted something minimal but elegant.

What was your favorite moment?

First seeing Gary at the end of the aisle and our first dance.

Tell us about your flowers, your gown, your favors, your cake, etc.

My flowers were a sunflower bouquet which are my favorite flower. My gown was something unexpected for me with the sparkle and beading. I thought I would go for something much more simple but I ended up loving something way out of character for me. Our cake was simple and made by a family friend which made it all the more special.
