Succop Nature Park Wedding

It’s no secret that I love color. You can see it all throughout my work. When Kristen first approached me about her Succop Nature Park wedding, we hit it off right away and I was SO excited when she started discussing the vision of her wedding day. Our mutual love for bold colors helped bond our connection and I just knew we were the perfect fit. Although her wedding was in 2019 (I’m a terrible procrastinator when it comes to blogging), I recently had the time to reconnect with Kristen and gather her perspective and thoughts on her wedding day. I asked her a few questions about how her and Matt came to be, her wedding vision, and advice that she has for newly engaged couples.

 

What was your color palette and your style vision?

We both love the color red and I’ve ALWAYS wanted red bridesmaid dresses. But I didn’t want them to be all the same. I thought that a summer garden party theme would allow our friends and family to get creative but still be casual and comfortable. Hats were welcome! I loved tea parties growing up, so this was my adult version.

 

Describe your wedding day in your own words:

I wanted the day to be relaxed and fun without a lot of rushing around so I loved that we got ready AND had everything all at the venue. It was really important to me to have all the details in place as much as possible to minimize the stress. However once everything started moving I just tried to truly enjoy the day, EAT (if I could remember – my friends and family helped with that lol) and dance 🙂

Tell us about your flowers, your gown, your favors, your cake, etc.

My flowers and center piece designs were through my sorority sister and college friend’s local business Sapphire and Lace. My gown was from a second hand store that I had tailored by my mom’s friend. My favors were thrifted mugs from Goodwill. My cake was made by a friend and former co-worker’s now husband Sam.

How did you and Matt meet?

We met at Allegheny College where we both attended. We were friends for about six years before we actually started dating.

How did Matt propose?

We were on vacation with Matt’s family and my sister in Outer Banks, NC. We wanted to go to this pier and ended up there one evening after dinner. As we walked on the beach he asked me what my favorite vacation we had been on together was. Then he said he hoped it would be this one and got down on one knee.

What unique elements or DIY did you include?

I collected milk glass prior to the wedding, but decided to make it a major part of the design. Our cake stand, the main vases on our sweetheart table and some of the other pieces I thrifted over the months leading up to the wedding. My mom, family and friends helped to make the signs for the tables, the corkboard for the mug wall and the mugs themselves were thrifted too.

What is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be?

Think about the things that you are willing to spend money to save you TIME. We wanted the majority of our money to go towards making sure people could relax and have a good time outdoors, but I didn’t want to have to stress about setting stuff up or taking things down. And not every little detail is going to matter. Five minutes before I was about to walk down the aisle my wedding coordinator Kelly looked at me and says “where’s your veil?” I realized it was in the closet at my parent’s house 20 mins away. I looked at her and said “I look better without it.” And you know what, I did. Enjoy your day.
